Goals

The Annual Conference on White Privilege

MISSION

The Conference on White Privilege serves as a yearly opportunity to examine and explore issues of white privilege, diversity, multicultural education, multicultural leadership, social justice, race/racism, sexual orientation, gender relations, and other systems of privilege/oppression. It provides participants the opportunity to get honest about the type of society in which we live, and the advantages that accrue to some but not others. The conference offers a means to develop and sustain ongoing work to dismantle this system of white privilege, white supremacy, and oppression.

GOALS

To provide participants the opportunity to dialogue with presenters and other participants in order to:

1. Involve a multitude of people from a variety of backgrounds -- including high school, college, and graduate students; business professionals; K-12 administrators and educators; college faculty and staff; community activists; faith communities; non-profit and social justice organizations; and members of the general public – in the discussion of how white privilege, white supremacy, and oppression affect their everyday lives.

2. Engage and involve participants in the exploration of privilege and oppression as they are manifested in the United States. Such exploration includes the dynamics of privilege and oppression and the effects of these phenomena as related to such issues as race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, and socioeconomic status.

3. Furnish participants with concrete strategies for addressing issues of privilege and oppression, particularly as these issues pertain to social and economic justice in their everyday lives.

4. Provide participants the opportunity to organize groups and networks to sustain, enhance and expand anti-racist activity on an ongoing basis.

What is the White
Privilege Conference?

1. WPC is a conference that examines the challenging concepts
of privilege and oppression and offers solutions and team-building
strategies to work toward a more equitable world.

2. It is not a conference designed to attack, degrade or beat up
on white folks.

3. It is not a conference designed to rally white supremacist groups.

4. WPC is a conference built on the premise that the U.S. was
started by white people, for white people.

5. WPC is a conference designed to examine issues of privilege
beyond skin color. WPC is open to everyone and invites diverse
perspectives to provide a comprehensive look at issues of privilege
including: race, gender, sexuality, class, disability, etc. - the ways we
all experience some form of privilege, and how we’re all affected
by that privilege.

6. WPC attracts students, professionals, activists, parents, and
community leaders/members from diverse perspectives. WPC
welcomes folks with varying levels of experience addressing issues
of diversity, cultural competency, and multiculturalism.

7. WPC is committed to a philosophy of “understanding, respecting
and connecting.”
